For those individuals and clubs who wish to assist Nepal's recovery, a RAWCS Project has been registered by Rotarians in Rotary District 9830 (Tasmania) which has direct links with the Rotary Club of Hetauda, Nepal. That club will direct funds to where they are most needed. The online donation facility can be found here: https://donations.rawcs.com.au/Default.aspx?ProjectID=865&ReturnTo=4.

It should be stressed that Rotary is not a first response organisation,  that is the realm of Shelterbox, Disaster Aid and other emergency relief agencies like Aquabox. However, Rotary can and will be involved in the medium to long term recovery effort and that is what the RAWCS fundraising will be committed to.

ShelterBox is in talks with several aid agencies and Rotary contacts to see where we can help. A Response Team is heading to Nepal to get a first-hand idea of the scale of the destruction and the level of need. Prepositioned aid, including tents, is located in Nepal that could be used as emergency clinics as well as shelters in the immediate aftermath.

Dave Ray, ShelterBox Operations Coordinator, said: "One of our contacts based in Kathmandu told us that the environment is filled with fear and that people have been told to expect more tremors. There is a lot of damage in Kathmandu and emergency relief will be required for sure."
